Barrytown
We had a bit of a lie in as we didn’t have to go to the knife making workshop until 10:00. James the driver, Seb, Jonathan, Graham and Sophie all squeezed into a tiny car for the short journey down to a local hunters house. (West coast rules apply and there is no such thing as overloading!)
The day was spent working with the Forge and beating the raw steel into shape on an anvil and making up the handle. It was a good day with everybody turning out very individual knives even though we had all followed the same instructions. Everybody was more than delighted with what they had made. After a drop of the hunters moonshine we wandered back up the road waving our newly made knives at the few cars that passed us. Back home this may have been seen as very odd behaviour but on the west coast it appeared to be a form of local greeting. In fact I am not sure that a few of the locals didn’t wave equally as large knives back. :o)
The rest of the night was spent sitting in the bar, diner that night consisted of a spit roast of various meats which was just yummy, Jonathan and Sophie even managed to put away seconds, chatting to the people who had stayed the extra night in Able Tasmin. Everybody was showing off their knives and Graham was acting the eedgit with a plastic spatula acquired from the kitchen, claiming that it was what he had made instead of a big knife.
