We catch the bus and head to Waitomo, this is where we got the chance to go down into some caves, Sophie did the 3 hour trip and I did the 5 hour trip.
On arriving at the caves I had to get suited and booted into a wet suit, abseiling harness and cavers helmet with light. I had to abseil 40 metres through an hole in the side of a hill with just my head light for seeing with. Once the 10 of us had all made it down we went for a short walk through the caves before having to do a zip line slide through a cavern in the dark with no lights on, we continued our walk, you could turn off your light and see all the glow worms in the caves. Stopped for some hot coffee and biscuits before jumping 3 metres into a river with a inner tube of a tyre to sit on so we could float down the river for a bit, we stayed in the ice cold river after floating down stream and had to walk chest deep, before having to float on our backs for a bit. We stopped again and had some more hot drinks and chocolate before continuing through the caves. We eventually got out of the river and had to crawl though some tight passages to get access to another cavern from here we had to climb 3 water falls to eventually get out of the caves.
This was just a fantastic day!!!
