Stray, New Zealand

Haast > Queenstown

The drive from Haast to Queenstown gave some of the best views to date, lots of mountains and lakes with blue sky!  We stopped for a bite to eat at a roadside café and were enjoying the good weather when a classic car rally pulls up.  Lots of Triumphs, MGs, AC Cobras etc.  We got some great photos of them with the fantastic scenery as a backdrop.

As we had the small bus we were able to take a short cut over the Crown Range Drive past Cardorna Vally. We stop off at a cracking view point looking down over Queenstown, before heading down to the Kawarau Bridge which is the location of the first commercial bungee site.  Unfortunately the bungee staff were on a break so we couldn’t jump at that time, so we headed on into Queenstown to get booked into the hostel.

Jonathan and Sophie took it easy whilst Graham and Seb head up in the cable car for a spot of Lugeing.  Seb does the bungee up there as part of his Thrillogy ticket for all the A J Hackett sites in Queenstown.  Unfortunately the rest of the group just missed his jump AND his photos didn’t come out.

When we were finishing up and about to head down the para gliders were shutting up and offering cheap flights, $100 instead of $185. So Jonathan, Graham and Seb seized the opportunity and took the exciting way down, no dull cable cars for us thanks very much!

We head out for a cracking pizza and a few beers in Winne Bagoes before calling it an early night.
