With slightly queasy stomachs from the night before we gathered ourselves to wait for the minibus to take us up to the Canyon swing. It was a fair drive out of Queenstown and away up a muddy path, well into private property. After we signed our lives away we made our way down to the hut to get rigged up in the full body harnesses.
The canyon swing is a bungee style jump that is 109m high with a 60m freefall before the transition into a swing with a 200m arc where you approach speeds of up to 150kph.
There is a menu with around 40 different suggested styles of jumps. Due to the fact that it is a smooth transition from free fall to the swoop, as opposed to the take up on a bungee you are much freer to do stupid things off the platform. The options range from a pin drop to an interesting concept of ‘Gimp boy goes to Hollywood’ in which you are trussed up and hung by your feet before being released down into the canyon.
Graham went first with the old faithful forward dive, Jonathan was next with his running jump, Seb smugly did a backwards dive. We were all busting for more so Graham opted for a pin drop, Jonathan was strapped in a garden chair and went off backwards, and no surprises Seb went for the full on Gimp boy!
After the buzz of the morning the afternoon was spent downloading photos and burning CDs before returning to Winnie Bagoes for Pool and more great food. Then everybody got themselves sorted for moving on the next day.
